Karachi: The Housing Transport Link

Problems of low income groups who constitute 68 percent of Karachi ‘s population

Karachi’s population from 1998 to 2001 grew at a rate of 8.1% per year, making it one of the fastest growing cities in the world. With an estimated population of 21.2 million people, it has a density of 24,000 people per square kilometre. Density has increased in Karachi from 6.7 to 7.3 between 1998 and
2011 (a 10% increase). This is due to an absence of accommodation and not because of higher fertility rates.
